WHITING, Ind. – With another week in the Midwest Collegiate League complete, two more names have been chosen as players of the week.

For the third time in four weeks, Tristan Welch (Louisiana State-Eunice/Baton Rouge, La.) of the DuPage County Hounds has been named the MCL Player of the Week.  Welch had another outstanding week, going 9-27 (.333), with seven RBIs, six runs scored and one home run.  Welch’s stellar week helped push his season totals to 40 RBIs, six home runs and 34 runs scored. These numbers helped Welch be the mid-season front runner to earn the MCL MVP Award. Welch’s week helped the Hounds improve their first-place record to 16-7.

Northwest Indiana’s Nate Thomas (Northern Illinois/South Bend, Ind.) has been named the Pitcher of the Week. Thomas had one start this week where he threw six innings, gave up just two hits and struck out nine, all in rout to earning the win in a 3-1 victory over the Joliet Admirals on June 23.  The win helped the Oilmen extend their winning streak to four, and bring their record at the time to 14-9, which is good for second place in the MCL.
