The Southland Vikings have added some punch to their lineup this offseason by picking up 3B Kevin Koziol. This spring Koziol will be suiting up for the Parkland College baseball team after transferring from LSU.
Koziol went to Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Illinois. In his sophomore year Koziol hit .366, drove in 47 RBI and tied a school record with 11 homeruns. In his junior year Koziol didn’t slow down as he hit .356 with 8 homeruns and 27 RBI. As a pitcher he went 5-2 with a 2.64 ERA while striking out 47 in 45 innings pitched. It was his junior year when he got the honor of being named the 2009 Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year.
Along with being named Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009, Koziol has racked up quite a resume and had earned a lot of accolades at the high school level. Koziol was a three time Illinois All-State selection, a 2009 Under Armour All American, 2010 Conference Player of the Year, a three time 1st Team All-Conference selection, and at three time All-Area selection.
Koziol will join the Vikings at the beginning of the summer and if he can produce like he has in the past, then Vikings fans will be in for a treat this season.
