Heartland Community College athletic director and head baseball coach Nate Metzger has announced that sophomore left-handed pitcher Aaron Hauge (Homewood Flossmoor HS / Homewood, IL) – has committed to play at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale next year. SIUC competes in the Missouri Valley Conference and finished 23-34 last year. Former Heartland catcher Luke Mottashed is currently a junior at SIUC.

Aaron posted great numbers last year as a freshman, leading the Hawks to a 54-11 record and the NJCAA D-2 World Series. Hauge went 10-1 with a 2.41 ERA. In 75 innings pitched, he struck out a Heartland single season record 106 batters while only walking 19.

Aaron becomes the seventh Hawk to sign with a four-year school from this year’s sophomore class. 56 of 62 Heartland sophomores have moved on to play at the four-year overall – including 39 of the 56 who have made the jump to D-1 programs.
