Whiting, Indiana – August 5, 2012 –The Northwest Indiana Oilmen (4-0) sweep through the 2012 playoffs to capture the MCL Championship in their inaugural season. A four run second inning solidified the Oilmen victory with a final score of 6-2.

Oilmen Billy Miller got on base three times, doubling in the third inning. Miller scored one run with an RBI. Elliot Bajda singled in the second to score John Livingston and Alex Lincoln.

Andy Wellwerts picked up the win. Wellwerts pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run, eight hits, and one walk while striking out three. Jack Cinoman came on in the ninth to close it out and secure the victory, and the 2012 MCL Championship for the Oilmen. Zach Strecker took the loss for the DeKalb County Liners. Strecker allowed six runs in six innings, walked three, and struck out four.

Oilmen Cody Dykema was named the championship series MVP. Dykema went two for four and scored two runs. In game one, Dykema went two for four with one run and two RBIs.  

The Northwest Indiana Oilmen, one of six teams in the 3-year-old Midwest Collegiate League, a pre-minor league summer wood-bat baseball league with teams ranging throughout the Central Midwest, including Rockford, DeKalb County, and the Chicago Southland.
