Chicago, Ill. – Aug. 8, 2022 – The Northern League has announced its final set of weekly awards for the 2022 season.
Ranko Stevanovic (North Park / Chicago, Ill.) of the Lake County Corn Dogs has been named the Northern League Player of the Week, while AJ White (Judson / Harvey, Ill.) of the Chicago American Giants was tabbed the league’s Pitcher of the Week.
White allowed two runs on six hits while striking out nine over seven strong innings to earn the win in the Giants’ season finale against the Joliet Generals. His seven-inning complete game helped the Giants play the role of spoiler in an important game in terms of playoff seeding. He becomes the first Giant to earn a weekly award this season, after winning a close Pitcher of the Week vote that saw first-place votes spread out among four different candidates.
Stevanovic went 5-for-8 in three games this week, scoring four times and driving in six runs. He also drew a walk and had four of his five hits go for extra bases, including a home run. He posted a slash line for the week of .625/.667/1.375. His efforts helped the Corn Dogs finish out a regular season that saw the team shatter the league’s single-season record for both wins and winning percentage, outdoing the 2017 Northwest Indiana Oilmen (total wins) and 2013 DuPage County Hounds (winning percentage), who previously held those marks. The Corn Dogs finished at 35-11.
The league will announce its major awards and all-league team at the conclusion of the postseason.
