Chicago, IL – November 13, 2011 – The Midwest Collegiate League announced today that the DeKalb Liners Summer Collegiate Baseball Club have become the newest member of the MCL and are set to begin play for the 2012 season.

DeKalb will join the DuPage County Hounds, Chicago Zephyrs, Rockford Foresters, Southland Vikings, and Will County CrackerJacks of the Midwest Collegiate League a nationally known and the fastest growing summer college league in the country.  The Liners are the second Prospect League market in less than a year to come into the League the other being DuPage.  The League plans to announce additional expansion news soon.

“We are extremely excited to welcome the Liners and their owner Kim Wise into our League, stated Commissioner Don Popravak. “The DeKalb market offers the Midwest Collegiate League an ideal location which is easily accessible from the Interstate Highway.  It fits perfectly with our plans to build a Cape Cod like summer collegiate league from both a talent and geographic footprint,” said Popravak who added “with shorter travel distances it will also cut down on the expenses associated with overnight trips helping our clubs manage their operating costs.”  He further added “we believe that the Midwest Collegiate League will be an attractive destination for the best college baseball players from all over the country because of its great location,” stated Popravak.  The Midwest Collegiate League will also be offering roster opportunities to the top junior college and minority baseball players providing them with a chance to show case their talents as well so that our league becomes a destination for Major League Baseball Scouts.”

The Midwest Collegiate League will play a 10 week 46 game schedule beginning playing on June 1st with a post season league playoff.   Additionally, the League will feature a July 11th All-Star Game to be played at Benedictine University the Home of the DuPage County Hounds.
