Chicago, Ill. – June 5, 2018 – The Midwest Collegiate League unveiled its first set of weekly awards for the 2018 season on Tuesday. DuPage County’s Stephen Mogged (Southern Illinois / Lindenhurst) was named the MCL Batter of the Week, while Bloomington’s Clifton Slagel (Heartland CC / Fairbury, Ill.) was anointed the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Not only did Slagel deliver far and away the league’s best pitching performance of the week, but he turned in one of the most noteworthy outings in the nine-year history of the MCL. Slagel was one out away from a no-hitter before the Joliet Generals notched their first hit of the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on Thursday. He racked up 17 strikeouts and issued no walks over 8 2/3 innings, picking up the win in his Bobcats debut as Bloomington bested Joliet 3-0.

Mogged compiled a .400 batting average and .538 on-base percentage over five games, racking up seven RBIs and scoring eight runs to help DuPage County to a stellar 5-0 start to the season. He started the week with back-to-back multi-hit games before capping it with a four-hit output at Joliet on Sunday.

The MCL is a pre-professional summer league that thrives to aid players in their development as they advance their games to the next level. The league is in its ninth season and has developed a strong track record of producing professional talent.
