Whiting, Ind. – August 8, 2023 – After his brother struggled with walks in the first game of the series, Tyler Laux found a grove in game two. Laux pitched a complete game and allow only one unearned run as the Oilmen beat the Southland Vikings 5-1.

 

Laux once again showed why he is one of the key pieces of the Oilmen’s pitching staff, pitching a gem against the Vikings. Laux scattered five hits and struck out seven Vikings while facing just 33 batters. It was Laux’s first win in the postseason for the Oilmen and showed why manager Adam Enright can rely on him time and time again.

 

“Laux right out of the gate commanded the fastball the best he has all season,” Enright said. “He had outstanding command of three above-average pitches, so he was pretty tough to hit.”

 

. Four Oilmen recorded multi-hit games. Cain Headrick led the team, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Angelo Cantelo also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Logan Anderson and Josh Cunniff also recorded multi-hit games, both going 2-for-3.

 

“Headrick had some well-hit balls in the field that got us started early,” Enright said. “We had good at-bats that not only led to us scoring four runs but also raising the pitch count.”

 

The Oilmen even the semifinal series against the Vikings and will play game three Wednesday night. The game will be played at Oil City Stadium at 7:10 p.m.
