Chicago, Ill. – July 19, 2022 – The Northern League announced its weekly awards for this past week on Tuesday. These honors were based on performances from July 11-17 during regular-season play, excluding stats recorded during the league’s All-Star Game.

Nick Fies (Saint Xavier / Munster, Ind.) of the Southland Vikings was named the Northern League Player of the Week, while Jacob Cook (Missouri S&T / Chicago, Ill.) of the Crestwood Panthers was honored as the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Fies collected four hits in a game against the Panthers on Monday, July 11, slugging two home runs and driving in three. He followed that up with a three-hit output in the first game of a doubleheader at Joliet on July 13. The second game of that twinbill saw Fies rip a go-ahead double in his only at-bat, changing the complexion of the game with a two-bagger that helped the Vikings secure the sweep. For the week, he went 8-for-14 (.571) while driving in seven in four games.

Cook logged four shutout innings in the Monday, July 11 game at Southland. He yielded just two hits and walked one while striking out four. The solid pitching performance stood out in a game that saw the two teams combine for 28 runs.
