Chicago, Ill. – May 30, 2022 – The Northern League announced its first set of weekly awards for the 2022 season on Monday, and the league’s newest team wasted no time in collecting its first-ever honors.

Tyler Schultz (Purdue Northwest / Hobart, Ind.) was named the Northern League Player of the Week, while Frank Plesac (Bethel / Crown Point, Ind.) garnered Northern League Pitcher of the Week accolades. Both are members of the Lake County Corn Dogs, who are off to a 3-1 start in their inaugural season.

Schultz went 7-for-15 (.467) for the week, clubbing a pair of doubles while drawing two walks, being hit by a pitch and compiling a .556 on-base percentage. This marked the second time Schultz earned the league’s Player of the Week award in his career as he did so last June while playing for the Crestwood Panthers.

Plesac earned the Pitcher of the Week nod by virtue of eight innings over two games in which he allowed one run on three hits while walking none and striking out 10. The bulk of Plesac’s work came in Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Northwest Indiana Oilmen as he logged seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball while striking out seven and walking none to earn the victory.

The league will name a Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week each Monday throughout the season.
