Crestwood put in the pitching performance of the year thus far in a win against Northwest Indiana Oilmen at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago, Illinois.
Justin Schassburger earned his third win in six innings, and newcomer Charlie Faoro pitching three innings to earn his first career save in the combined one-hit 4-1 win. The two combined for an astounding 17 strikeouts, with Schassburger having 12 and Faoro having five.
The two combined for 7.2 no-hit innings before a bunt-single broke up the no-hit bid in the 8th. The lone run given up was an unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Coach D’Vante Glenn was ecstatic with the pitching performance he got during the ballgame.
“It was phenomenal to say the least,” Glenn said, “[Justin] hit every spot that he could, and it put Charlie in a good position to close out the game.”
On the offensive side, the Panthers led from the first inning onward. After a pair of walks by Maurey Garrett and Connor Janik, Alex Las slapped an RBI single to make it 1-0 to score Garrett. Janik would score one batter later on a balk by Oilmen starter Tyler Preissing.
Hobbs Dunne notched his second RBI on the season with a single in the fourth scoring Jacob White to make it 3-0. Peter Fusek established himself as the Northern League’s RBI leader (At the time of this writing) with a double in the seventh scoring Nico Pena making it 4-1. Glenn was pleased with the timely hitting of the Panthers.
“I always remind our guys to be aggressive in hitter’s counts.” Glenn said, “It got the job done.”
