Chicago, Ill. – July 2, 2019 – After another exciting week of baseball, the Midwest Collegiate League has announced their fifth pair of award winners, with one General and one Viking among the honorees.

The Joliet Generals’ Danny Borgstrom (University of Evansville / Morris, Ill.) secured the Player of the Week award and the Southland Vikings’ Justin Rios (North Central College / Lemont, Ill.) won the Pitcher of the Week award.

Borgstrom had an impressive week at the plate, posting a .570 batting average, .643 on-base percentage, and five RBIs. Four of Borgstrom’s eight hits went for extra-bases, including a two-run home run against the Crestwood Panthers on Saturday, June 29 that helped his team secure a 16-6 victory.

Rios, dubbed “center line” by Southland manager Dave Letourneau for his impressive performances at the plate, the mound, and centerfield, was a standout performer for the Vikings this week, pitching eight shutout innings against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen. Rios struck out seven while allowing only six hits and giving up only three walks in a 3-0 Vikings win.
