Chicago, Ill. – July 12, 2021 – The Midwest Collegiate League unveiled its weekly honors on Monday, with Josh Williams (Highland CC / Chicago, Ill.) of the Chicago American Giants earning MCL Player of the Week recognition and Nick Miketinac (Butler / St. John, Ind.) of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen garnering MCL Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Williams went 9-for-14 (.643 AVG) this week with one home run, eight RBIs and five runs scored over four games. He hit for the cycle on Thursday against the MCL Minutemen, enjoying a 5-for-5 game that featured six RBIs and three runs scored. Williams also had a 3-for-3 showing, drove in a pair and scored twice on Saturday against Crestwood.

Williams, who became the second member of the Giants to win the MCL Player of the Week award this season, has a slash line of .367/.441/.571 in 15 games this summer.

While Williams achieved one rare baseball feat by hitting for the cycle, Miketinac was a key cog in another as he started and went five innings in a combined, seven-inning no-hitter against the MCL Minutemen on Wednesday. He did not allow a hit nor a run in his five frames while racking up seven strikeouts and pitching around four walks. Miketinac combined with two other pitchers to complete the no-no, the first in the 10-year history of the Oilmen.

For the season, Miketinac holds a 2-1 record and 2.20 ERA in five games (four starts) spanning 16 1/3 innings. He has recorded 24 strikeouts and issued 17 walks.

The MCL will continue to announce its weekly awards each Monday throughout the season.
