WHITING, Ind. – June 6, 2017 – The second week of the season is behind us in the Midwest Collegiate League, and two more players have taken home MCL Player of the Week honors.
Tristian Welch (Louisiana State-Eunice/Baton Rouge, La.) of the DuPage County Hounds is the newest MCL Hitter of the Week. Welch went 13-32 (.406) at the plate, with four doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI. Welch’s best performance of the week was against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen where he went 4-4 and hit two home runs in the first inning, including a grand slam. He drove in eight on the day.
On the opposite side of the ball, Max Franklin (Heartland CC/Chicago Heights, Ill.) is the MCL Pitcher of the Week. He pitched five stellar innings without giving up a run against the Crestwood Panthers on June 4, scattering two hits and striking out 12.
