Highland, IN– The Indiana Panthers showed off their offensive skills and starting pitching strength against the Southland Vikings in an intriguing baseball game in which they won 13-9.

 

The Panthers got off to a fast start in the second inning as Scooch Scumaci was driven in by Ryan Doubek’s single, tying the score at 1-1. The Panthers capitalized on the Vikings’ errors in order to maintain scoring. Carraway scored due to a balk, and then Doubek was brought in by George Bilecki’s single, giving the Panthers a 3-1 lead. 

 

With RBI singles, Kevin Bushnell and Jason Ballard extended the advantage to 5-1. The Panthers’ lead was increased to 7-1 by RBI singles by Scumaci and Carraway, respectively.

 

In the third inning, the Vikings rallied by taking advantage of a few Panthers mistakes. With a clutch single that scored two runs and cut the deficit to 7-3, Caleb Rhodes delivered.

 

But the Panthers kept up their offensive onslaught in the third inning, when Kevin Bushnell blasted a two-run homer, increasing their advantage to 9-3.

 

The Panthers continued to score in the sixth inning, adding more runs. Bilecki was brought home by Carraway’s walk, and Kevin Bushnell was advanced to second base by Josh Williams being hit by a pitch. The advantage increased to 13-3 when Scooch Scumaci scored after Ryan Doubek drew a walk.

 

In the later innings, the Vikings made it closer by profiting from defensive errors made by the Panthers. The gap was reduced to 13-8 when they added a couple runs that weren’t deserved. The score increased to 13-9 as another run was added by Caleb Rhodes’ double.

 

The Indiana Panthers ultimately defeated the Southland Vikings 13-9 as a result of their potent offensive display and strong starting pitching. 

 

Pitcher Beau Polickey’s stellar performance on the mound contributed significantly to the Panthers’ success, securing him the well-earned win. The victory is sure to boost the Panthers’ confidence as they continue their quest for a playoff spot. The Panthers will be back at Highland High School Wednesday, July 26 to host the Griffith Generals at 7 p.m. CT.
