The 2022 Crestwood Panthers season came to a close on Saturday night at Oil City Stadium with a loss to the playoff-bound Northwest Indiana Oilmen.

The Panthers jumped out to a lead early on the Oilmen similar to the first two games of the series. However, the Oilmen would stage a furious comeback to win 9-7.

“We fought all the way up until the end.” Head Coach D’Vante Glenn said after the game.

The Panthers jumped all over the Oilmen early with five runs in the first four innings to make it 5-0. Hobbs Dunne led the way on the attack with three RBIs in these first innings finishing 3 for 3 on the night.

Over this time, Justin Schassburger was putting the finishing touches on a record-breaking season. Coming into the night, Schassburger was eight strikeouts behind teammate Charlie Faoro for the team record. Schassburger would strike out ten to finish with 66 strikeouts on the year.

“Jusitn has been great for us all year.” Glenn said, “He came out tonight with [the record] on his mind, and him being able to get it was great.”

However, the Oilmen would come storming back in the later innings scoring three runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings respectively. The Panthers could only spread out two runs over the final five innings as the Oilmen took the win.

The Panthers finished the season with a 17-26-1 record. Head coach D’Vante Glenn was nothing but grateful for the effort of the team this season, and the opportunity to coach them.

“I appreciate this team for working with me in my first head coaching position.” Glenn said, “For them to be able to learn under me and play hard under me every day, I appreciate them for that.”
