The Crestwood Panthers dropped their second game in a row on Thursday at Marian Catholic High School to the Joliet Generals.

 

The 14-6 loss was the Panthers’ second in a row. They fell to 5th place in the Northern League standings.

 

The Generals took the lead early, jumping to a 5-0 advantage in the third inning. The Panthers did what they normally do and slowly worked their way back into the ballgame.

 

In the third. Brendan Slota and Maurey Garrett had back to back RBIs after Slota singled and Maurey hit a sacrifice fly. Peter Fusek added to his league leading RBI total with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-3.

 

In the sixth, Malik Staples singled in Garrett to make it 6-4. Charlie Schau then bounced a ground-rule double over the fence to tie the ballgame at 6-6. Schau went 4/5 on the day with two RBIs, and head coach D’Vante Glenn loved the performance of Schau on the day.

 

“Charlie had a great day.” Glenn said, “He started off a lot of innings for us, and it gave the dugout energy.”

 

However, the Generals would score eight unanswered runs over the final two innings to take the lead back The ballgame ended 14-6.

 

On the mound Justin Schassburger bounced back from a four-run third inning to pitch seven innings. This included leaving the Generals scoreless over the final three innings of his start.

 

“For him to be able to settle in, it was great to see.” Glenn said.

 

The Panthers are off for the next four days through the Fourth of July holiday. The break comes at a welcome time for the Panthers.

 

“It’s definitely going to give us a nice little break.” Glenn said.

 

The Panthers play next on Tuesday, July 5th against the Southland Vikings at Marian Catholic High School. The Panthers are 2-3 against the Vikings this season.
