The Panthers dropped their fourth game in a row on Thursday at Legacy Fields in Crown Point against the Lake County Corn Dogs.
The game was a pitcher’s duel throughout as both teams traded zeroes for the first seven and a half innings. The Corn Dogs broke through thanks to an RBI triple in the eighth by Doug Loden, and Roman Kuntz hitting a two-run home run on the next pitch. The Corn Dogs took the win 3-0.
Despite the loss, Panther pitching shined once again as Justin Schassburger threw five shutout innings striking out two and giving up only five hits. Maloney threw two scoreless innings before the Corn Dogs broke through in the 8th,
“We had a 0-0 ballgame going into the eighth, and that’s all I can ask for.” Head Coach D’Vante Glenn said, “To see that coming from two guys that are reliable was a great sight to see.”
On the offensive side, the Panthers were shut out for the second game in a row. However, the strikeout totals still remained relatively low with only seven on the game today including only two in the first six innings. With this in mind, Glenn is working to keep his guys sticking to their approach.
“[Sticking with our approach] is the hardest part, especially with the way the games went today and yesterday.” Glenn said, “We have to stick with our approach of putting the ball in play because that will always put pressure on the defense.”
The Panthers play next on Monday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Dowling Park in Hammond, Indiana against the Southland Vikings. The Panthers are 2-4 against the Vikings this season.
