Tuesday night’s contest against the Indiana Panthers was a come from behind victory, featuring timely hits and an Oilmen bullpen that held it down when it mattered.

The Oilmen had a slow start to Tuesday’s game, scoring just one run through six, but found a way to capitalize on the Panthers bullpen, pulling  out a 6-4 victory. The Oilmen found their groove late in the game, scoring two runs in the seventh and three  in the eighth.

However, the Panthers did not go away easy. The Panthers took the lead on two separate occasions, most notably the eighth inning, when they went ahead 4-3 , scoring two runs on four hits.

Offensively, it was Brendan O’ Connor who sparked the Oilmen’s late-game comeback. O’Connor went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a triple while scoring three of his team’s six runs.

“He’s a big power threat in the lineup,”  Oilmen manager Adam Enright said. “He’s very self-aware of the adjustments he has to make; he’s not a guy who’s going to go up and continue to do the same thing if he’s not having success and expect different results.”

Oilmen starter Brandon Laux and Panthers starter Alberto Lamas both had no decision as it was a game decided by the bullpen. However, Laux was efficient in his outing, going five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Lamas also made it difficult for the Oilmen offense, as he pitched 6 ⅓ innings, allowing just three hits on three runs.

The Oilmen bullpen came into relief in the sixth inning in a game where they trailed 2-1. Tanner Sobkoviak pitched one inning, Aaron Buckholtz two and Jack West picked up the save in the ninth inning.

“Having guys come in who can give us a chance, or have a good enough outing where they can come in and put up a zero is everything at this point,” Enright said.

Both Brenden Stressler and Randy Seymour picked up multi-hit games, both going 2-for-4. It was Seymour’s two-RBI single in the bottom of the eighth that gave the Oilmen the 6-4 lead.

The Oilmen improved to 14-7, and host the Lake County Corn Dogs on Wednesday, June 28 at 7:10 p.m.
