The Panthers came out on the short end of a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday night at Marian Catholic High School against the Southland Vikings.

The one hour 59-minute speedster of a ballgame featured only five hits combined. The Vikings had the big hit of the day with a sixth inning Luke Sefcik two RBI single. The Vikings took home the win 2-0.

It was a pitchers duel from the start as Charlie Faoro and Nick Noles traded five scoreless innings to start the ballgame between the two of them. Faoro struck out eight over the course of his six innings of work.

The bullpens were just as spectacular as the Panthers’ Jacob Cook and the Vikings’ Colin Amsden and Oscar Trevino each combined to throw a hitless seventh, eighth, and ninth innings.

Cook added five more strikeouts for the Panthers combining for 13 strikeouts overall with Faoro. Despite the loss, head coach D’Vante Glenn could be nothing but pleased with the effort he got from his starting pitchers.

“Our pitchers kept us in the ballgame.” Glenn said.

On offense the Panthers could only muster two hits on the day. Peter Fusek had a double in the first inning before Jimmy Gurgone led off the second with a single. Despite this, Glenn was okay with the approach of his team.

“There was not too much I was upset about from an offensive standpoint.” Glenn said, “It’s just the way baseball goes.”

The Panthers play next on Thursday against the Lake County Corn Dogs at Legacy Fields in Crown Point at 7 pm. The Panthers are 1-3 against the Corn Dogs this season.
