Chicago, Ill.- July 13- The 2021 MCL All Star lineups have been announced, and four Minutemen made the cut.

Gabe Cortez (Prairie State/ Tinley Park, Ill.) has been a reliable batter for the MCL Minutemen (5-14) so far. He has the fourth highest batting average on the team with a .310 average, going 9-29 on the season. Three of those have gone for doubles, two of them in clutch fashion. On top of it, he has a .487 OBP. He has produced seven RBIs and five runs to go along with it. Cortez has also been sharp at the plate, taking eight walks as well. Cortez will likely see the infield coming into the game.

Jorge Santos (South Suburban/ Homewood, Ill.) has been the ace and go-to pitcher for the Minutemen. Santos in his regular season is positioned in the outfield, but on the West All Star roster, he is listed as a RHP. Santos (1-2) has pitched 19 innings in four games. He started in two of them. Santos has the second most strikeouts with 24, and has only allowed 12 earned runs and 17 hits. He has a 5.684 ERA, the third lowest on the team with over 150 more pitches thrown than the man with the lowest ERA. Santos has 186 total strikes on top of it.

Doug Loden (Joliet JC/ St. John, Ind.) has been the Minutemen’s slugger this season. Loden is tied for the most base hits on the team with 12. He has a .261 AVG and a .431 OBP. He leads the team in home runs with three, and also leads the Minutemen in RBIs with 17. Loden is also tied for the most runs scored on the team with 12. As he leads in many of the team’s batting statistics, he also becomes valuable in the field, being extremely versatile. He can play anywhere in the infield, has played a few games in the outfield, and is one of the Minutemen’s best closers.

Gino Gazzillo (Joliet JC/ Steger, Ill.) has been the Minutemen’s top guy behind the plate. Gazzillo has the highest batting average on the team with a .414, and the highest on base percentage with a .500. He has 12 base hits which ties Loden for the most on the team. He also has three extra base hits, one of them being a triple. Gazzillo has hit one of the team’s nine home runs this season. He has driven in seven RBIs and scored seven runs for the Minutemen. Gazzillo is one of two catchers listed on the West All Star lineup, so make sure to catch him behind the plate for some of the game.

These four Minutemen will represent their team next Tuesday, July 20 at 7:10 pm at Oil City Stadium where they will play with and against the top players in the MCL.
