Chicago, Ill. – March 18, 2021 – The Midwest Collegiate League, based in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area, is seeking broadcasting and media relations interns for the 2021 summer season. The internship begins in mid- to late May and runs through early to mid-August.

The MCL is entering its 12th season of aiding collegiate athletes in their baseball development. Numerous MCL alumni have reached the professional ranks including St. Louis Cardinals All-Star infielder Paul DeJong, former Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tony Cingrani, former New York Mets outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski and Milwaukee Brewers 2016 No. 5 overall pick Corey Ray.

In addition to aiding players in their development, the league has a track record of helping young broadcasters reach the next level. Numerous former MCL broadcasters have gone on to continue their careers in the professional ranks.

The internship program offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to hone one’s skills in all aspects of broadcasting and media relations. The internship is available for college credit and college students pursuing a career in broadcasting or a related field are encouraged to apply. The following positions are available for the 2021 summer season 

MCL Minutemen Play-by-Play Broadcaster

– Serve as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for MCL Minutemen broadcasts, which will air over Facebook Live.

– Attend and broadcast all games, home and road. Road games are all within a reasonable driving distance, so no overnight travel is required.

– Develop a familiarity with equipment used for broadcasts.

– Write a game recap that is sent out to local media and posted on the league website following each game. Interview team’s manager after each game to get quotes for the story. 

– Submit nominations to the league office for Player of the Week, Pitcher of the Week, end of season awards and All-Star consideration. 

– Operate and maintain team social media accounts. 

– Serve as media relations contact for the team. 

– Keep stats for all home games using GameChanger software.

– Update and maintain the team website. 

– Other duties as assigned.

Joliet Generals Play-by-Play Broadcaster

– Serve as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for Joliet Generals broadcasts, which will air over Facebook Live.

– Attend and broadcast all games, home and road. Road games are all within a reasonable driving distance, so no overnight travel is required.

– Develop a familiarity with equipment used for broadcasts.

– Write a game recap that is sent out to local media and posted on the team and league websites following each game. Interview team’s manager after each game to get quotes for the story. 

– Submit nominations to the league office for Player of the Week, Pitcher of the Week, end of season awards and All-Star consideration. 

– Operate and maintain team social media accounts. 

– Serve as media relations contact for the team. 

– Keep stats for all home games using GameChanger software.

– Update and maintain the team website. 

– Other duties as assigned.

NWI Oilmen No. 2 Broadcaster

– Serve as the color commentator for NWI Oilmen broadcasts, which will air over Facebook Live, alongside Oilmen play-by-play broadcaster Brandon Vickrey.

– Perform one inning of play-by-play per game and occasionally fill in as the lead play-by-play broadcaster.

– Attend and broadcast all games, home and road. Road games are all within a reasonable driving distance, so no overnight travel is required.

– Develop a familiarity with equipment used for broadcasts. This position plays a key role in the production of broadcasts in addition to serving in an on-air capacity.

– Assist with game recaps, game notes, statistics, media relations, social media and website maintenance as needed.

– Assist with PA announcing, PA scripting, music editing and in-game music operations as needed.

– Receive the opportunity to work at beautiful Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. and be a part of the league’s most successful franchise historically. Since the franchise was founded in 2012, the Oilmen have won three MCL championships, reached six MCL Championship Series and qualified for the playoffs in all nine seasons. The Oilmen will celebrate their 10th-anniversary season in 2021.

– Other duties as assigned.

NWI Oilmen Broadcast Production Intern / Gameday Operations Assistant

– Play a key role in production of the team’s video broadcasts.

– Attend all home games to assist with broadcasts.  

– Some on-air broadcasting opportunities will be available for the right candidate if desired.

– Assist with PA announcing, PA scripting, music editing, in-game music operations and official scoring as needed.

– Contribute to the team’s social media efforts.

– Gain experience in all aspects of the Oilmen operation.

– Receive the opportunity to work at beautiful Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. and be a part of the league’s most successful franchise historically. Since the franchise was founded in 2012, the Oilmen have won three MCL championships, reached six MCL Championship Series and qualified for the playoffs in all nine seasons.
