Benedictine University, former site for the Prospect League to host an expansion team of the Midwest Collegiate League

Lisle, IL – JULY 13, 2011 – The Midwest Collegiate League announced today that an expansion franchise was awarded today to Windy City Sports & Entertainment, which will play at Benedictine University in Lisle beginning in 2012.  This will mark the second expansion franchise granted for the 2012 season with the first being Kankakee, IL, which was announced earlier this week.

The new Lisle summer collegiate baseball team will play as members of the Midwest Collegiate League, a nationally known summer college league based in the Midwest.  The League currently has four active clubs including the Chicago Zephyrs, Rockford Foresters, Southland Vikings, and Will County CrackerJacks.

Benedictine University once played host to the Prospect League’s DuPage Dragons, for its entire existence of the facility until this past year when the Dragon’s owner decided to cease operations of the club.  Don Popravak Commissioner of the Midwest Collegiate said, “The opportunity to play at a nationally recognized facility such as Benedictine University is tremendous for our League, with over a million people living within DuPage County it offers us a great location and destination for our growth.”

“We are extremely excited to welcome the Midwest Collegiate League to the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex,” said Lou Simios, Director of Sports Complex Operations at Benedictine.  “The residents of Lisle in particular and DuPage County in general have long enjoyed watching high-quality, collegiate-level baseball at the Sports Complex, which is widely considered one of the top college athletic facilities in the Midwest if not the country.  We anticipate they will enthusiastically embrace this new Midwest Collegiate League team.”

A team name, web site and merchandise will be launch during August and a more formal announcement will be made to the general public.
