Chicago, Ill. – April 1, 2020 – The Midwest Collegiate League has announced a one-year rule change to allow collegiate seniors from the Class of 2020 to participate in the league during the 2020 summer season.
The change comes after the NCAA granted an additional year of eligibility to student-athletes from all spring sports who lost the majority of their 2020 season due to COVID-19. The MCL rule change will apply to players from all collegiate levels regardless of whether or not they intend to utilize their extra season of collegiate eligibility in spring 2021.
“I believe this is a great opportunity for the Midwest Collegiate League to expand eligibility to Class of 2020 college seniors to provide them with a chance to keep their skills sharp and continue their baseball development during the summer season,” MCL Commissioner Don Popravak said. “With Major League Baseball discussing adjustments to the length of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, our league will provide an opportunity for projected later-round draft choices to hone and showcase their skills this summer.”
