Chicago, Ill. – June 21, 2022 – The Northern League announced its weekly awards for the fourth week of the summer season on Tuesday as Chris McDevitt (Indiana State / Chicago, Ill.) of the Southland Vikings was named the league’s Player of the Week, while Matt Lelito (Toledo / St. John, Ind.) of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.

McDevitt posted a .411 batting average this week while launching a home run, racking up nine RBIs and drawing four free passes in four games. McDevitt enjoyed a four-hit game that featured six RBIs against the Panthers before adding three hits and three RBIs against the Generals. He became the first Viking to earn a Northern League weekly award this season. Overall this summer, he holds a .298 batting average with one home run and 15 RBIs.

Lelito, who became the first Oilman to earn a Northern League weekly award this season, established a single-game strikeout record on Wednesday against the Chicago American Giants at Oil City Stadium. He became the first pitcher in the franchise’s 11-year history to strike out 14 batters in a single game. Lelito allowed two runs (both unearned) on four hits while walking none.
