Chicago, Ill. – June 28, 2021 – The Midwest Collegiate League announced this week’s accolades on Monday as Northwest Indiana Oilmen pitcher Jack Guzek (Iowa / Manhattan, Ill.) was named the MCL Pitcher of the Week, while Joliet Generals infielder Christian Seegers (Oakton / Schaumberg, Ill.) was named the MCL Player of the Week.
Guzek earned the MCL Pitcher of the Week award for the fourth time in his Oilmen career and first time this season. He struck out 10 while walking one and permitting just three hits over five shutout innings on Wednesday, garnering his third victory of the year as the Oilmen topped the MCL Minutemen 10-1.
Guzek lifted his Oilmen career strikeout total to 106, becoming the second player in franchise history to reach the 100-strikeout milestone, joining Christian Howell. The fourth double-figure strikeout performance of his Oilmen career allowed the right hander to improve his season strikeout total to 26 against just one walk in 13 innings over three starts.
Seegers went 5-for-6 with three doubles, three RBIs, two runs and two walks this week, becoming the first General to garner Player of the Week honors this season and the second Joliet player to obtain an MCL weekly award this year. He drove in three and had three hits including two doubles on Monday vs. Southland before enjoying another multi-hit output in Sunday’s road game against the Chicago American Giants.
