Carol Stream, Ill. – July 25, 2022 – In Joliet’s first home game in 12 days they were able to come out strong in the second game to split the doubleheader against Lake County.
They lost the first game 6-0 but bounced back in the second game, winning 6-3. Both games were seven innings.
After getting shutout in the first game, the Generals were able to quickly put up some runs in the second game. The game was led off by an Anthony Stellato double. He was also able to get two more hits that game to go along with two runs scored. It was also another big day for Michael Gould who had three hits on the day, two of them being a triple.
“It’s all about the approach,” Stellato said. “I was swinging very hard early in the year trying to go for home runs, and I realized that wasn’t my game. I am shortening up and trying to hit a line drive between third and shortstop every time.”
Even though the Generals gave up six runs in the first game, they were able to hold the Corn Dogs scoreless for the other six innings. David Deimling pitched three and a third scoreless along with one scoreless inning for Dino Biggers. In the second game Joliet kept up the great pitching as Evan Ryan, Aaron Vertuno and Nick Vollmert combined for all seven innings allowing just three runs while walking only one and striking out five.
Coming into today Joliet had won the last two games against Lake County. However, even with dropping the first game, they were able to battle to beat out a tough team.
“Always good to bounce back and end the day on a high note, especially with the doubleheader,” Manager Joe Silva said. “The guys competed all day and it was good to see some good baseball.”
The Generals look to build off the second game of the doubleheader as they take on the Crestwood Panthers at Marian Catholic High School. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the broadcast will be available on Facebook Live.
