Whiting, Ind. – July 20, 2020 – Though the Minutemen have only existed for a short time, they are already beginning to leave their mark on the Midwest Collegiate League. In just their second week in existence, they captured their first weekly honor as Patrick Doran (North Carolina Central/Chicago, Ill.) was named MCL Player of the Week.

After signing last Monday, Doran only suited up for four games during the week and starting in three. However, he made all three count. He assembled a slash line of .548/.571/1.154, hit four extra-base hits, including two home runs on Friday and Saturday. Doran knocked in five runs, scored seven times, drew one walk, stole one base, and did not strike out. With his incredible performance, he set the league record for fewest games played to win Player of the Week.

On the pitching side, Northwest Indiana Oilmen starter Jack Guzek (Iowa/Manhattan, Ill.) earned Pitcher of the Week accolades. Having pitched in the MCL last season, this marks his third weekly honor.

Following Sunday’s rainout against the DuPage County Hounds, the Minutemen take to Howie Minas Field in Midlothian, Ill. on Monday at 3 p.m. to host the Northwest Indiana Oilmen. The game will be streamed on the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Broadcast Network with Brandon Vickrey, Ryan Zimmerman, and Andrew Fish on the call.
