Chicago, Ill. – July 20, 2020 – MCL Minutemen first baseman Patrick Doran (North Carolina Central / Chicago, Ill.) was named the Midwest Collegiate League Player of the Week on Monday, while Northwest Indiana Oilmen right hander Jack Guzek (Iowa / Manhattan, Ill.) received the league’s Pitcher of the Week Award.

Doran compiled a slash line of .548/.571/1.154 over three games during his first week as a member of the Minutemen. He clubbed four extra-base hits, doubling twice and launching two home runs, which came on consecutive days on Friday and Saturday. Doran drove in five and scored seven times while also drawing a walk, stealing a base and not striking out. The marks the first MCL Weekly award in the history of the Minutemen, the league’s newest team for the 2020 campaign.

Guzek pitched his way to the MCL honor during his start at Crestwood on Wednesday, when he permitted just four hits over six shutout innings while racking up nine strikeouts and issuing no walks. The Oilmen ace has not allowed a run all season in 13 innings and has 17 strikeouts against just two bases on balls. Guzek is no stranger to MCL Pitcher of the Week honors as he won the award in two of the first three weeks during the 2019 campaign, taking the distinction on June 3 and June 17.

The league will continue to announce its weekly awards each Monday throughout the season.
