Chicago Ill. – July 8, 2022 – The Generals did it again. Joliet for the second time this week was able to mount a huge comeback. They went down early 7-0 and stormed back with four runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, and six runs in the sixth.
They won by a score of 16-9. The game ended in six innings.
Although the Generals were scoreless through the first two innings, they were able to explode starting in the fourth inning. It was Bryce Vincent, the 2021 MVP, who got the Generals back into the game with a 3 RBI double.
“We never stopped fighting,” Vincent said. “I think we have a good camaraderie on the team. A lot of guys were putting the ball in play pretty hard and when you do that good stuff happens.”
Another important player for Joliet tonight was Jack Dupuis, who scored three times and also had two RBIs. However, the night didn’t end at that double in the 4th as Vincent had another two hits and ended the night with a season-high six RBIs.
“I ate a lot of skittles before the game, the purple bag,” Vincent said. “They were tasting pretty good so that is the key right there.”
The Giants’ offense started out hot so Joliet was forced to go to the bullpen. In came Evan Ryan who worked three and a third allowing no earned runs and just three hits.
This win moves the Generals back to .500 heading into the all-star break.
“We were able to stay with it. We were able to scrap one on a double steal,” Manager Joe Silva said. “Seeing that one run (in the 3rd inning) up on the board, gave us a little bit of momentum.”
The next game for the Generals is a doubleheader at Lee Pfund Stadium on Wednesday, July 13 against the Southland Vikings. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the broadcast will be available on Facebook Live.
