Crown Point, In – July 19, 2022 – Joliet got off to a quick lead and didn’t let up as they took down the Corn Dogs.
They won by a score of 7-4.
Although the Generals have been a great hitting team this year, the star of today’s game was starting pitcher Aaron Wojciechowski. Wojciechowski threw six scoreless innings allowing just one hit and had one of the best outings of the year in The Northern League.
“He was able to learn from his last start against them [Corn Dogs] and apply it,” Manager Joe Silva said. “He has really good chemistry with [catcher] Will Sommers.”
However, even with the great pitching, the offense started off hot with a DeShawnte Carraway solo homer in the second to get Joliet started. That was followed by a big three-run third inning that included three extra-base hits.
“DeShawnte was under control and on time for a pitch and he didn’t try to do too much with it,” Silva said. “I am really happy to see him find his groove again today.”
It was another big inning in the seventh to add to the lead as Joliet scored three, two of them on a two-RBI triple by Jack Dupuis.
Even with the big lead, it was not all smooth sailing as Lake County put up a four spot in the seventh inning cutting the lead to just three runs. But Joliet closed it out with David Deimling and Kai Formella who each threw one inning allowing no runs.
The Generals look to extend the winning streak to three as they take on the Southland Vikings on Wednesday at Dowling Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the broadcast will be available on Facebook Live.
