Chicago, Ill.- July 9- A homerun frenzy led to a win after three straight losses.

The MCL Minutemen (5-13) took down the Southland Vikings (9-15) in a homerun showdown winning 16-4. The Minutemen jumped out to an early 9-0 lead after pouring in six home runs.

The Minutemen scored the most runs in a game all season, breaking their highest originally set at 14. Multiple players scored home runs in the contest. Jason Daniels (Waubonsee/ Hammond, Ind.) and Ryan Nelson (Eastern Kentucky/ Aurora, Ill.) put one over the fence in the first inning. Gino Gazzillo (Joliet JC/ Homewood, Ill.) lifted one over later in the first, followed by Daniels with his second homer of the night to cap off the highest scoring inning of the season for the Minutemen. Nick Semancik (Franklin/ Whiting, Ind.) ripped one over the wall in the second inning for the Minutemen’s fifth home run of the game. Doug Loden (Joliet JC/ St. John, Ind.) cracked the last home run in the fifth inning. The Minutemen would score 10 more runs in a variety of ways throughout the game to manufacture their highest scoring game this season.

The team has ended their three game losing streak with the win tonight against the Vikings. The Minutemen were able to take advantage of a shorter field at Irving Park, and score too many runs for the Vikings to handle. The Minutemen haven’t won a game since July 2 when they took down the Joliet Generals 8-5 at Dowling Park.

Through rough field conditions, the Minutemen were able to persevere and take home a much needed win, not allowing them to fall into another losing run they suffered weeks before.

The Minutemen also started a new pitcher in tonight’s contest. Jake Meyer (Roosevelt/ Barrington, Ill.) took the win. He let up one hit and two earned runs with three strikeouts. They added Meryer after being one of the only true pitchers on the roster.

The Minutemen will face off against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen tomorrow at Oil City Stadium at 7:10 pm. Follow @MclMinutemen on Twitter to keep up with all the latest Minutemen news and updates, and follow @MCLMinutemen on Facebook to catch the live streams of every game.
