Chicago, Ill.- June 18- There were strikeouts galore in tonight’s one sided affair. Both teams delivered missiles from the mound.

The MCL Minutemen (3-9) took on the Joliet Generals (8-3) for the first time this season. Coming into this game, the Generals were the only team they hadn’t seen so far this season. Now, the Minutemen have gotten a look at all their competition moving forward. What many presumed to be a low scoring pitchers duel in the beginning turned into a hit parade for the Generals. The Minutemen would fall to the Generals 13-0 at Riverside Park.

Throughout the game, many of both team’s pitchers on the mound were lights out. The first nine outs of the game were made off of strikeouts. Of the 25 total strikeouts, Josh Gaines (Undecided/ Homewood, Ill.) threw nine of them. He now leads the team in strikeouts with 18. Justin Supergan (Prairie State/ Valparaiso, Ind.) contributed three, and Gabe Cortez (Prairie State/ Tinley Park, Ill.) provided one.

Besides the pitchers throwing strikes, manager Deandre Gilmore was not happy with how things went in tonight’s loss.

“We just need to do better. We gotta play better, do better, better baseball, better energy, better all around,” he said, “I just think guys need to wake up and do better.”

The team is now 12 games in, and Gilmore believes that now is the time to wake up and step up. Six straight losses marks the longest losing streak in the MCL this season. The Minutemen sit at the bottom of the standings, but get the day off Saturday through Monday to regroup and rest before taking on the Crestwood Panthers at Prairie State on Tuesday at 5:05 pm.
