Chicago, Ill.- July 6- A win to end a long losing streak before the holiday weekend was followed up with a loss at home.
The MCL Minutemen (4-12) dropped a game to the Northwest Indiana Oilmen (12-5) for the fourth time this season. Coming off their first win after losing eight straight, the Minutemen found themselves facing a double digit loss.
The team couldn’t connect a base hit in tonight’s contest. Doug Loden (Joliet JC/ St. John Ind.), Mike Koszewski (Cincinnati/ Oak Brook, Ill.), Gabe Cortez (Prairie State/ Tinley Park, Ill.), and Brad Miller (Spoon River/ Oak Forest, Ill.) were the only Minutemen to get on base due to a walk.
Manager Deandre Gilmore was not pleased with tonight’s home match, but stays positive moving forward.
“It was hard to sit through the game. It was hard to get through,” Gilmore said, “You come up on tough times like this, but you need to keep your head high and up. You can’t keep your head down and find some kind of energy.”
The team will look to move on from this loss, and look forward to tomorrow’s matchup against the Chicago American Giants who they haven’t played since June 16. Gilmore believes it’s got to be a team effort if they want to be successful tomorrow.
“I think it’s a team effort. Two or three can’t do it. It needs to be the whole nine with the same energy, and ready to play some clean baseball. If we do that, then we’ll be good,” Gilmore said.
