Chicago, Ill. – June 7, 2016 – The Midwest Collegiate League has announced Players of the Week for the second week of the season.
For the week of May 31 through June 5, Mitch Weis (Illinois State/Ballwin, Mo.) of the Bloomington Bobcats and Stefano Belmonte (Florida Gulf Coast/Munster, Ind.) of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen have been named players of the week.
Weis has been named pitcher of the week for the second consecutive week. He went seven strong innings and did not allow an earned run while striking out six in a win against the Oilmen.
The Bobcats are 5-1 so far this season and stand in first place in the MCL.
Belmonte has been named hitter of the week. This is Belmonte’s first player of the week award of the season. Belmonte hit .727 in his first week with the Oilmen this season, hitting a home run while collecting nine hits and 10 RBIs. Those statistics include a game against Southland on Saturday that was suspended in the fifth inning and will be resumed later this season.
The Oilmen are 2-6 so far this season.
